Power of Attorney in Ghana: When You Need One

A Power of Attorney (PoA) in Ghana lets you authorise someone to act on your behalf for defined matters — banking, land processes, school documents, or business steps while you are abroad. It is powerful paperwork: draft narrowly, execute properly, and revoke when the job is done.

When people commonly need a PoA

• You live abroad and need a relative to handle a land or bank task in Ghana
• Medical or care decisions where institutions request formal authority (context-specific)
• Business filings when a director cannot be physically present
• Vehicle or property transactions needing an agent at an office

General vs specific authority

Specific PoAs limit the agent to named acts (e.g., “collect this document,” “sign this transfer”). General PoAs are broader and riskier. Prefer specific language unless a lawyer advises otherwise for your situation.

Execution basics (practical)

1. Speak to a lawyer for anything involving land, large money, or corporate authority.
2. Identify the donor (you) and attorney-in-fact (agent) with clear ID details.
